HLAPEX Account Breach - Registry

I warned AboveTheSystem and DontFuckWithUs about this yesterday, after SirIlix logged in without being on Ventrilo, and came to us at DVC without his titanium on, asking for others to lend their titanium sets. Then following it witha request for a better bow (hes got the +16 hero bow).

After contacting Ilix on msn, we confirmed someone was on his character trying to steal his and the clans gear.


It appears if you are using the same account username as you do your main character name, someone is using the HLAPEX program to change account passwords, enter using that password and steal all of your gear.

Luckily Ilix had his titanium on an alt at the time, but not everyone can be so lucky.




So until something can be done to avoid this, I suggest everyone who is using identical usernames and character names, put all of your valuable gear on an alt account.

I'm ok cos my Stormbringer account is actually an alt account after this occured the first time years ago, my main is on what should be an alt account. So im all backwards and fine.

I even think its none of these, my PW cant be found in any wordlist and cant be guessed [brute]. With hlapex you also just enter the account numbers, not names - so you get random accounts, and not accounts from specific people.

The hacked accounts has nothing to do with people hacking the god damn server and tracking ur accounts and passwords. If you didn't notice, the recurring issue happens to people who have account names close to their characters names. My advice to you... make an account that has nothing to do with your character. People can go into the reg page and log in as your account by either brute forcing your passwords or guessing your account password's security question.

Be intelligent about your accounts and try to put some ownership and security behind your things...
